I established design principles around flow continuity, simple on the surface, and trust. These aligned to our product principles. We prioritized an integrated media modal over separate upload tools. This maintained focus and reduced context-switching.
Stay in Flow
I need a way to efficiently generate, organize, search, and manage both stock and custom media assets within Articulate 360.
Simple on the Surface
Introduce AI gradually with clear controls and guardrails. Authors should feel supported, not replaced or confused.
Build Trust
Make AI outputs transparent and editable. Show where images come from, what prompts were used, and allow full customization.
Exploring a unified in-tool solution
I developed a cohesive experience across all media types, ensuring users had a consistent toolset for generation and efficiency. By collaborating closely with Design Systems, we defined reusable patterns such as AI generation states, processing displays, and preview controls, resulting in over 20 variants. This work guided the design system components utilized by other teams.
Concept feedback
Rise AI Media seamlessly integrates AI image generation and AI audio capabilities directly into the authoring environment. This innovation has established a comprehensive central hub that caters to all media requirements, empowering creators to enhance their projects with cutting-edge technology.
User testing revealed that a single AI Media hub cut task time by 32%. The final UI featured contextual prompts for in-line image and audio suggestions.
7 of 8 users found the Course Media library helpful and want to create innovative multimedia learning experiences. Cost and speed of production are also key factors.

AI Images
Authors create unique images for their lessons directly in Rise. No need to leave the platform or pay for additional products. You add images to lesson blocks while maintaining your workflow.
*This final version is allowing more options for authors to add various images. The MVP was in development when I joined.
AI Audio (Text-to-Speech)
As an instructional designer, I want to leverage text-to-speech in Rise to produce accessible audio content without the need for live recordings or uploads. Users can choose from over 5,000 high-quality voices and utilize our AI tool to generate scripts for realistic audio that enhances the learning experience.
